The Secret Beneath. By Adriana Barrero

The Secret Beneath

Written by: Adriana Barrero

Once upon a time, in a small village nestled in a forest, a father and his daughter lived together. The father was a humble man, loved by everyone, not for his wealth, but for his kindness. Though he had little money, he always gave what he could to help others. Sadly, one day, he passed away, leaving his daughter, Anastasia, heartbroken. She missed him dearly and often felt as though he was still watching over her.

Anastasia was a sweet and affectionate girl who had always shared a close bond with her father. Even as she grew older, she felt an odd sense that someone was always watching her, or that something was hiding under her bed. But whenever she checked, there was never anyone there.

One evening, she spoke to her father’s memory, saying, “Dad, can you look under the bed? There’s no one there.” The father, in spirit, would have smiled at her innocence. Yet, she was insistent, and he felt he should check for her peace of mind.

When he looked under the bed, he expected to find nothing but dust and shadows. But to his surprise, he saw Anastasia sitting there, looking up at him with wide eyes, filled with fear. “Daddy, be careful,” she whispered. “Up on the bed, there’s someone who says it’s me.”

He froze, staring at her. Confusion and concern washed over him. He lingered there longer than he should have, looking under the bed as she watched, still terrified. The little girl, trying to remain calm but with a hint of anger, said, “Dad, is everything okay?”

The father finally stood up, a small smile playing on his lips to reassure her. “Yes, honey, everything’s fine. I checked under the bed and saw nothing but darkness. Nothing will happen to you. You’re safe.”

And from that moment on, Anastasia never feared the dark corners of her room again, knowing that her father was always there, watching over her.
