BANSKY ART . By Jimena Bolio Vargas.

BANKSY ART & EXPLANATION

Christ With Shopping Bags, 2004

Jesus Christ appears in pain, weighed down by the shopping bags, symbolizing the damage consumerism has on the original values of Christianity. Banksy uses effective motifs such as the melting gifts to suggest the ephemerality of modern Christmas, whilst the crucifixion represents how society has sacrificed happiness for material things, which offer only transitory joy.

Stop and Search was released in 2007

This work portrays a storyline with Dorothy (the central character from the Wizard of Oz), her dog, Toto, and a splash of blue in the police officer’s latex gloves. This print relates to the plot of The Wizard of Oz and suggests defiance towards authority and law enforcement, Dorothy and Toto are being prevented from getting home.

The Biciruta. By Gael Franco López.

 THE BICIRUTA

The biciruta is a family activity carried out on Sundays on the Paseo de Montejo in Mérida, Yucatan. This activity consists of closing the streets of Paseo Montejo to let cyclists roam free in the streets all day without using cycle lanes. On this day, you can rent bicycles or bring your own. With very picturesque scenes of the old-fashioned restaurants and buildings, you'll get some beautiful photos from here.

This activity is for all ages, and it's very fun. I've gone many times, and once I brought my dog and put him in a big bicycle with a small nest.

Also, you can buy some bolis or even have breakfast there. In conclusion, the biciruta is a very fun activity that I wish I went to more often.

Teenagers in the 1940s and Now. By Daniel Blanco.

 Daniel Blanco Montiel.

Teenagers in the 1940s and now

As we go through our teenage years, we have a really normal life, but what about

Teenagers in the 1940s?

I think they had a lot of homework, as teachers used to be way stricter than

today, also there weren’t any smartphones or tablets, even TV was scarce, so I think they

read or listened to the radio. Also, cars were a rare sight, so normally they moved by bus or

they walked. They may have met their friends at parks, and gone to eat at restaurants, they

were less dependent on their parents, and even some of them started working!

Now teenagers have a way easier life, first, teachers are way less strict today. Now,

even though students still move by bus, it’s way common to see students move by car. We

have smartphones, tablets, and computers to make our lives easier, we are more dependable

of our parents, and it’s unthinkable for a teen to start working these days, now we meet our

friends at malls, parks, or our houses.

In conclusion, teenagers these days have it easier than our fellow teens in the

1940’s. As we continue growing, I think our life has been made easier for good or bad?

• How is life as a teenager different from your grandparents´?. By Kelly Santana Martinez

How is life as a teenager different from your grandparents´?

As a child, I used to attend ballet, gymnastics, and judo classes, but school didn’t take me much time. After I left those, I went to swimming classes 2 times in a day for 3 days a week but now as a teenager, I just go to piano classes one time a week and athletics 4 times in a week and school starts to become more demanding so it’s taking me more time doing homework.

Auguste Escoffier: The Man Who Revolutionized the Kitchen. By Emilia Mendez Gamboa -

Auguste Escoffier: The Man Who Revolutionized the Kitchen

The influence of one man, Auguste Escoffier, is truly evident when we consider upscale restaurants, exquisite cuisine, and sophisticated cooking. Escoffier, also referred to as "The King of Chefs and the Chef of Kings," did more than simply cook; he revolutionized the entire field of professional cooking. Kitchens were chaotic before Escoffier.

Cooking was not regarded as a respectable job, and there was no true organization. But everything changed when he took over. He introduced the brigade system, which arranged the kitchen as a team with a designated responsibility for each cook (pâtissier, saucier, etc.). Even today, luxurious restaurants continue to adopt this technique.

He also made meal service more straightforward. Previously, every dish was served concurrently. Serving meals in courses, appetizers, main course, and dessert was a novel concept when Escoffier first proposed it. Today, it would seem completely natural. However, his impact extended beyond the company. Escoffier published the well-known cookbook Le Guide Culinaire, which is still consulted by cooks worldwide, and developed and refined innumerable recipes. The basic principles of good dining today are elegance, quality, and respect for ingredients, all of which he loved dearly.

Escoffier lived more than a century ago, yet his concepts are still relevant in every kitchen today. His legacy is evident whether you've ever dined at a classy food establishment, indulged in a decadent dessert, or seen a cookery show where everything functions like an automated device.

I believe that Auguste Escoffier was more than just a cook. He was a visionary and a great artist who elevated cooking to a prestigious career. Today's gastronomy wouldn't be the same without him.

The Unseen Visitor. -By Carla Gutierrez Pinzón.

Lisa Winslow had always found comfort in the quiet of her small town, where the nights were calm and the only sounds were the rustling of leaves. But tonight, the silence felt thick, almost suffocating. She couldn't shake the feeling that wasn't right. Every shadow seemed to stretch longer, every creak in the house louder. She couldn’t sleep.

Just as she was about to drift off, loud tapping broke the silence. Her eyes shot open. The sound was coming from her bedroom window. She lived on the second floor.

At first, she thought it was her imagination. Maybe a branch caught in the wind, but there were no trees close enough to touch the glass. The tapping grew louder and faster, as if someone, or something, was desperate to get in; her heart was pounding. She slowly slid out of her bed. She slowly slid out of her bed, with trembling hands. She pulled her bedroom blinds aside and looked out.

Nothing

Relieved, she let out a shaky breath and climbed back to be, her phone buzzled on the nightstand. the glow of the screen slicing through the dark, she glanced at it and froze. A new message.

“I can't see you now, open the blinds now.”

Her stomach tightened. She typed back quickly, “Who is this?”

The reply came instantly, "I'm still watching you”.

Panicking, she raced to the window again. no one was outside. She turned around, feeling dizzy

Her phone buzzed one last time, “I'm already inside.”

Her bedroom door creaked.

Artificial Intelligence. By Alejandro Flores

 Artificial Intelligence

Artificial intelligence is a technology that let you have machines that mimic human abilities like learning and making decisions. It has transformed many aspects of society.

AI simplifies takes in fields like medicine, education and transporting. It has opened a lot of doors like medical diagnoses, personalized learning, and safer systems.

But it also has risky aspects like errors in automated decisions, which could have negative consequences, and it makes things a lot easier than they usually are. That is a problem because many people forget what hard work means.

Artificial intelligence is a powerful tool. However, it is essential to develop it ethically and with responsibility.Governments, companies and people should work together to establish clear regulations and to help the people to be self-sufficient.

To which time period would you like to travel?

I would like to go to the Porfiriato because I want to know how it really was. And supposed I could meet someone there; I would like to meet Porfirio Diaz and ask him some questions about what or why he did what he did to get so far.

School Uniforms, Evil or not? By Daniel Blanco Montiel.

Daniel Blanco Montiel

 School Uniforms, Evil or not?

School uniforms are used in most schools in this city, but is it valid to use them these days?

Firstly, school uniforms have some benefits that have to be discussed. In the first place, school uniforms make an image of the school, for marketing purposes. Also, they reduce distractions, as no one is wearing fancy or strange outfits. Related to this topic is that uniforms can help in bullying reduction, since nobody is wearing richer or nicer clothes than others. Also, it could save time for students, because they do not have to choose what to wear or if this goes well with that.

Despite school uniforms having many positive aspects, they also have negative features. First of all, they restrict freedom of expression, as everything is the same and nobody can choose what to wear. Secondly, the cost, as the price of the uniforms normally has a cost and is normally very high. Another thing to consider is that there is no variation of school uniforms, so students can choose the one they like the most. Furthermore, the uniforms are not designed to the actual fashion standards, so some students can consider them ugly.

In conclusion, school uniforms, despite kids hating them, the benefits surpass the negative effects, as they prevent bullying and create an image of the school. So, in my opinion, school uniforms should be used more frequently.

Daily Routines Then and Now. By Adriana Barrero.

Daily Routines Then and Now

Written by: Adriana Barrero

I believe that my daily routine is quite different from my grandmother Luci’s routine. For example, she used to walk to school every day. Back then, they had many more physical books than we do now. When she needed to do research or complete homework, she had to look up the information in books and often go to the library if she didn’t have everything she needed. In contrast, we now do our research on phones or tablets, and we even use tools like ChatGPT. This makes the process much easier and faster than reading through books.

I imagine my grandmother’s daily routine was something like this: she would wake up, get ready for school, return home, eat, finish her homework, take a bath, and then get ready for bed.

On the other hand, my daily routine goes like this: I wake up early in the morning, get ready for school, have breakfast, and my mom drives me to school. After school, I return home, prepare for my evening routine, and finally get ready for bed and go to sleep.

Bansky´s Art. By Daniel Bachmann

Banksy is an anonymous and influential street artist whose works have become globally recognized for their sharp political messages, dark humor, and unique stenciled technique. Born in Bristol, England, in the 1970s, Banksy’s identity remains a mystery, and his work often challenges societal norms, authority, and the commercialization of art. His art, which first gained attention in the 1990s, is characterized by its provocative social commentary, addressing topics like war, consumerism, surveillance, and inequality.

Over the years, Banksy has created iconic pieces, such as “Girl with a Balloon,” “The Flower Thrower,” and “There Is Always Hope,” using public spaces as his canvas and often blending art with activism. His 2018 auction stunt, where a piece shredded itself after being sold, exemplified his ongoing critique of the art world’s commercialization.

Banksy’s work is highly sought after and displayed in prestigious galleries, yet he maintains his stance as an outsider, refusing to publicly reveal his identity. His art continues to inspire, provoke, and challenge audiences around the world, making him one of the most significant and enigmatic figures in contemporary art.

A Spooky Story . By Daniel Bachmann

Spooky Story

Room 3:33

Monday, October 31, 3:33 a.m. Wilberthano wakes up because his door slams shut. He thinks it was just the wind—or at least, that’s what he tells himself.

Wilberthano is a 14-year-old kid who goes to Providence High School. He is a brave kid, but at school, he gets bullied. He and his friend Neuracle have a tradition every day in October: they Facetime and tell each other spooky stories. Wilberthano was the best at that, like in wrestling, where all the stories he tells seem to parallel his own.

But how could Wilberthano be the main character of a spooky story?

Sunday, October 30

Wilberthano is at home, waiting for Halloween. Everything is fine, and he goes to sleep.

But then, he wakes up because his door slams shut. He thinks it was the wind, but all the windows were closed. When he checks the time, it is exactly 3:33 a.m., and he hears someone whispering his name.

Wilberthano goes back to bed and starts praying. Then, he hears it again. Something touches his feet. When he looks down, he sees his little sister standing there, staring at him. Wilberthano, afraid, starts laughing nervously—when suddenly, something turns off the lights…

The Next Day

Every day at lunchtime, kids like Floros and Camila take Wilberthano’s lunch, leaving him with nothing to eat. They also force him to do their homework. One day, Wilberthano refuses. They start to fight, but Wilberthano is a really good fighter—because his dad is the famous fighter “El Conejo,” and he taught his son everything he knows.
